Jr NTR is a bonafide superstar of Indian Cinema having delivered many successful films in his long
career, last being SS Rajamouli’s RRR. His latest film Devara directed by Kortala Siva released a few
days ago and the jury is still out on the film.
The film opened to a massive Rs 82.5 crore on day 1 but since then the film has been on a downward spiral especially
the Telugu version.
But it is the Hindi version that has grown strength to strength over the weekend only to witness a drop by 57 percent,
whereas the overall drop was 68 per cent. Devara minted Rs 7.5 crore on Friday while the collections jumped to Rs 9
crore on Saturday and to Rs 10.5 crore on Sunday, taking the weekend collection to Rs 27 crore. But on Monday the
film minted only Rs 4 crore, thus taking the overall collection of the film to Rs 31 crore, while the total collection of
the film now stands at Rs 173.11 crore.
In comparison to another Telugu hit of the year , Kalki 2898 AD the film had minted more Rs 309 crore whereas the
Hindi collection of the film was Rs 111.5 crore. With no film releasing till the next 10 days Devara will have a free run
at the box office but the chances are very slim for a major revival for the film and crossing Rs 250 crore mark.
Devara also marks Telugu debut of Saif Ali Khan and Janhvi Kapoor, while Bobby Deol has been roped in to play the
antagonist for the second installment. The film features Jr NTR in a dual role of father-son, Devara and Vara.
The movie earned well during the first three days after its release and minted ₹172 crore on its opening day
worldwide, according to the film-makers’ statement. The movie earned a total of ₹275 crore gross in its opening
weekend worldwide, reported Hindustan Times citing Comscore data. With this, the movie is behind only The Wild
Robot, which minted ₹44 million over the weekend.
Two-part epic “Devara” is billed as a high-octane action drama set in the forgotten coastal lands of India. The first
part was released in Telugu, Tamil, Hindi, Malayalam and Kannada last week.
