The year, which was a veritable treat for fans of Bollywood music, produced a range of scintillating chartbusters that spanned several genres—from the rustic retro score of ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’ to the soulful songs of ‘Barfi!’, from massy item numbers like ‘ChikniChameli’ and ‘Halkatjawani’ to the funky ‘Tum hi ho bandhu’ and ‘Daarudesi’.
Like every year, the Mirchi awards felicitated the best talent of the music world across 22 categories.
Ayushman Khuranna, host for the evening, charmed the audience and celebrity guests like Amitabh Bachchan, Asha Bhosle, Pyarelal, Anandji, Vidya Balan, Ajay Devgn, Shilpa Shetty, Raveena Tandon, Govinda, Ravindra Jain, Bappi Lahiri, Bhupinder Singh, Jatin Pandit, Hariharan with his witty MCing.
Adding to the entertainment of the evening were performances by Mohit Chauhan, Sonu Nigam and duets acts by Alka Yagnik and Kumar Sanu, Mika and Himesh Reshamiya. But the show-stealer was undoubtedly a musical tribute given to Amitabh Bachchan by a galaxy of composers including Salim and Suleiman, Pritam, Sajid and Wajid, Aadesh Srivastava and others.
The eminent jury, chaired by Javed Akhtar, included film-makers Ramesh Sippy, Ashutosh Gowariker, Sooraj Barjatya, and Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, lyricists Prasoon Joshi and Sameer, composers Anu Malik, Aadesh Srivastava, Lalit Pandit, Louis Banks and Shankar Mahadevan, and singers Kavita Krishnamurthy, Kailash Kher, Alka Yagnik, Sadhana Sargam, Suresh Wadkar, Talat Aziz and Ila Arun. It was a starry, memorable musical evening that was a treat for fans of Bollywood music.
