She seems to have it all. A flourishing career, a loving partner and family, a huge fan following and what not. And yet, Alia Bhatt has admitted to feeling bouts of anxiety.
Well, Alia, take heart, you are not alone. There are many of us who have been there, experienced that sinking feeling in the pit of our stomach. It feels like the end of the world and every day feels like a task that’s hard to complete. We question ourselves, what’s wrong with us? Our lives may or may not be smooth but anxiety is something that can creep up on us anyway.
Alia Bhatt has admitted to feeling like crying for no reason and that it has been happening for the past 5-6 months. In an interview given to Filmfare, the Raazi actor said: “I haven’t been depressed but I’ve had bouts of anxiety. It comes and goes. It’s been happening quite a bit since the past five to six months. It’s not like an anxiety attack but I just feel low.”
Alia’s sister Shaheen Bhatt has fought depression and wrote a book about it called ‘I’ve Never Been (un)Happier’. She came close to committing suicide and it is from her experiences that Alia knows what she is going through.
The actor had also portrayed the role of an unhappy girl who gets a new perspective after meeting a psychologist in the coming of age film Dear Zindagi. Alia felt a little on the edge but says that her feelings of anxiety are not permanently there and she was a confused initially as to what was happening.
She spoke to her friends Ayan Mukerji and Rohan Joshi to understand what was happening. Everyone told her that she needs to realise that it will go away but what’s important is to accept it as it is and not say that you are feeling fine. An important point in fighting mental health issues indeed! We cannot gloss over such things and keep everything bottled up inside as that’s not the solution.
The pressure of everyday life can be hard to bear at times but when it comes to those with celebrity status, the problem can be manifold. The pressure of looking good, acting well (on screen and off it), relationship rumours and controversies can be unbearable.
Add to that the pressure of being a woman in an industry that still does not respect the gender that much. No wonder then that there have been many cases of female celebs like Deepika Padukone, Anushka Sharma, Manisha Koirala, Hazel Keech and more who have been to that dark place and fought with such feelings.
We hope Alia also comes out of this phase soon and manages to be as amazing as ever! If you have ever felt like there was no one to understand what you’re going through then don’t keep it all inside. Talk about it. If not to your close ones then tell someone who has the experience of dealing with such things.
