Aishwarya Rai and Hrithik Roshan’s kissing scene in Dhoom 2 ignited several controversies, with reports suggesting that even the Bachchan family were not happy with that scene.
Hrithik Roshan in Dhoom 2
The 2006 action thriller Dhoom 2 was the sequel to the 2004 hit Dhoom and brought back the duo of Abhishek Bachchan and Uday Chopra as the Mumbai cops Jai and Ali chasing Mr. A, a mysterious thief who has committed crimes across the world. Hrithik Roshan played the suave and smart thief Mr. A aka Aryan Singhania and Aishwarya Rai played his love interest, Sunehri.
Aditya Chopra, who produced Dhoom 2 under his banner Yash Raj Films and also wrote the story himself, wanted Aishwarya to complement Hrithik’s perfect physique and asked her to lose 5 kilos in 10 days for the film. Aishwarya’s personal trailer Deepika Mehta was flown in from Mumbai to Namibia, where the film was being shot, and helped the actress to get in shape.
Aishwarya’s stunning transformation in her sexy avatar impressed audiences, but what shocked many was the intimate kissing scene between her and Hrithik. After the release of Dhoom 2 in November 2006, the scene became controversial and it was even reported that the Bachchan family raised an objection to the same. Aishwarya Rai was set to tie the knot with Abhishek Bachchan in April 2007. When Hrithik Roshan was asked about the same, he surprisingly said, “My wife had laid down only one condition – ‘If you’re going to kiss on screen, this better be the best bloody kiss in the entire world!’ That was her only pre-condition. And it was a challenge I had to live up to.”
Made in just Rs 35 crore, Dhoom 2 smashed the box office records and earned Rs 80.91 crore net in India and grossed Rs 147 crore worldwide. It became the highest-grossing Hindi film at the time of its release, until its record was surpassed by Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone-starrer Om Shanti Om in 2007
