Junaid Khan reflects on his supportive upbringing and close family bonds despite his parents’ divorce, praising Aamir Khan and Reena Dutta for their maturity.
Junaid Khan, the son of Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan, recently opened up about his childhood and his experience growing up with divorced parents. Aamir Khan and his first wife, Reena Dutta, ended their 16-year marriage in 2002. Despite their separation, Junaid shared that his parents’ maturity ensured a happy and supportive upbringing for him and his sister, Ira Khan.
In a candid interview with Vicky Lalwani, Junaid reflected on his parents’ decision to part ways. He said, “It was good. My parents split up, I think, when I was eight. But they never actually let us feel that. I never saw them fight till I was 19. The first time I saw my parents fight, I was 19. So we never saw them disagree or fight. When it came to us (Junaid and Ira), they were a single unit. I think that way they did well. Two good people aren’t always good together, and this way we got, at least I got, a childhood with both parents being happy.”
Junaid: Mum, Ira, me, and dad meet regularly
Junaid also revealed that the family maintains a close bond despite the divorce. He shared, “It’s great. We meet frequently, even after Ira’s marriage. We all live within the same 100-metre radius. In fact, every Tuesday evening is family tea. Mum, Ira, me, and dad meet regularly, sometimes all four of us, or just two or three. We’ve been doing this for years now, and it’s a tradition we cherish.”
He also spoke about how his father, Aamir, has changed over time. “I think we all evolve as humans as time goes by. As he’s getting older, he wants to spend more time with us. Sometimes it’s a good thing, sometimes it’s like, ‘Papa, please…’ But mostly, it’s good,” Junaid added.
Junaid acknowledged his father’s consistent presence during his childhood
Despite their parents’ separation, Junaid and Ira grew up in a loving and supportive environment. Junaid acknowledged his father’s consistent presence during his childhood, saying, “Papa used to be there. It’s not like he was entirely absent. In fact, sometimes it was like, ‘It’s okay, don’t come.’”
On the professional front, Junaid recently debuted in the film Maharaj (2024) and will next be seen alongside Khushi Kapoor in Loveyapa. Later this year, he is set to share the screen with Sai Pallavi in another project.
