Amitabh Bachchan, who is currently hosting KBC 16, made a surprising revelation that left fans in awe. During one of the episodes, Amitabh shared that he considers himself “half-Sardar,” explaining that his mother, Teji Bachchan, hailed from a Sikh family. He also mentioned that his maternal aunts affectionately called him “Amitabh Singh.”

Amitabh opened up after Kriti, a contestant, shared her experience of being in an inter-caste love marriage and the difficulties she faced in convincing her parents to accept her partner. In response, Amitabh expressed that he doesn’t believe in the concept of inter-caste distinctions, emphasizing that “we are all one.” He further added that he considers himself “half-Sardar,” saying, “I find it a little awkward to call it inter-caste. My father was from UP, and my mother was from a Sikh family. I believe I am half-Sardar.”

Recalling his childhood, Amitabh said, “When I was born, my aunts from Punjab would say, ‘Kinna sona putar hai, ki naam rakhiya. Haaye sadda Amitabh Singh (What a beautiful son we have, what shall we name him? Ah, our Amitabh Singh).’ They never stopped calling me that.”

About Amitabh’s Parents

Amitabh was born to Harivansh Rai Bachchan and Teji Bachchan. His father was a prominent figure in the Nayi Kavita (New Poetry) movement of early 20th-century Hindi literature, while his mother was a social activist, born in Lyallpur, Punjab Province, British India. The couple met at a college event in Lahore and married in 1941. They tied the knot in Allahabad and were blessed with two sons: Amitabh, the elder, and Ajitabh, who is five years younger than him.

Meanwhile, Amitabh’s statement is doing rounds on the internet. The statement comes when Amitabh’s son – Abhishek Bachchan’s married life with Aishwarya Rai seems to be in turmoil. Speculations have gone viral that the couple have parted ways. However, no official statement on the same has been given either from Aish or Abhishek.
