Veteran screenwriter, Salim Khan fell in love with Sushila Charak, later known as Salma Khan, and later, the duo tied the knot in 1964. Together, they have three sons, Salman Khan, Arbaaz Khan, and Sohail Khan, and two daughters, Arpita Khan and Alvira Agnihotri. As Salim and Salma had an inter-faith marriage, the latter’s father was against it. Salim’s father-in-law was so angry with their union that he didn’t even visit them for ten years.

In an interview with his son, Arbaaz Khan, on the talk show, The Invincibles, Salim Khan shared some details about his inter-faith marriage with his first wife, Salma Khan. During the heartfelt conversation, Salim recalled the early days of his courtship with Salma and mentioned that he expressed his desire to meet her parents as he felt that meeting secretly was inappropriate. He shared:

“Before our courtship, I told Salma I want to meet your parents as hiding and meeting is a wrong thing. So when I went to her house, I felt all the Maharashtrians from India were there (chuckles). I was very nervous about seeing so many people.”
