Celebratory dhol, bhangra’: Indian hockey players receive grand welcome in Delhi, felicitated by sports minister

The majority of the Indian hockey players including captain Harmanpreet Singh arrived in Delhi on Saturday and were greeted with garlands and celebratory dhol at the Indira Gandhi Airport.

The bronze medal-winning Indian men’s hockey team arrived in Delhi amid fanfare and celebratory dhols on Saturday. India won the bronze at Paris Olympics 2024 after beating Spain 2-1 in the playoff match. This was India’s second consecutive bronze at the Olympics and only second in 44 years.

The majority of the Indian hockey players including captain Harmanpreet Singh arrived in Delhi on Saturday and were greeted with garlands and celebratory dhol at the Indira Gandhi Airport. Some players celebrated their homecoming by doing bhangra outside the airport.

The legendary goalkeeper PR Sreejesh, who retired after winning the bronze medal, has stayed back in Paris as he has been declared as India’s joint flagbearer with Manu Bhaker for the closing ceremony.

Amit Rohidas, Raj Kumar Pal, Abhishek, Sukhjeet Singh and Sanjay have also stayed back in Paris.

“We have received all the support, and all our requirements were fulfilled. I really want to thank… We are very happy and proud,” Harmanpreet told the media on his arrival.

“It is a big achievement for hockey. The love that is being showered upon hockey doubles our responsibility. We will also try that whenever we enter the field, we comeback with a medal,” he added.
